March 16, 2023Reasons for the Fed to keep rates unchanged next week are mounting as softening economic data combines with growing concerns about the banking industry. The Fed had indicated it would likely hike by at least 25 basis points this month, before entering the blackout period that precedes rate decisions. Recent developments, however, should change their minds, Spartan’s Peter Cardillo tells WSJ. He points to two reasons: “the weak retail sales and better than expected PPI showing softening inflationary pressures within the pipeline [and] the Credit Suisse fall which will likely extend the banking crises.”
