February 23, 2024Crude futures are losing ground and on track for a weekly loss as talks aimed at brokering a ceasefire and hostage-release deal between Israel and Hamas are due to be held in Paris, with Israel expected to send a delegation. “We suspect a reason for this morning’s weakness is attributed to a new ceasefire effort between Israel and Hamas,” Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital says in a note. Mideast conflicts have had a limited impact on oil prices in the absence of supply disruptions. Meanwhile, cautious comments by several Fed officials, and this week’s hawkish Fed minutes, have dampened expectations for interest-rate cuts any time soon. WTI for April delivery is off 1.7% at $77.25 a barrel, and Brent is down 1.6% at $82.32.([email protected])
