US benchmark oil prices continue to rise, up 0.2% at $71.75 a barrel after notching four consecutive weekly increases, the longest winning streak in six months. “Crude Oil continues to gain positive market traction as the demand factor overrides a possible Iranian pact,” says Peter Cardillo at Spartan Capital. Oil demand recovery in the US remains strong, while India, the world’s fourth-largest oil consumer, is also bouncing back, with the iconic Taj Mahal monument reopening for tourists last week. India’s daily Covid cases have plunged by 87% to 53,000 from as high as 414,000 last month, even as just 3.6% of the country is fully vaccinated through yesterday, according to Statista.
